G1 is a very light ice axe for classical alpinism which incorporates all the characteristics of a Grivel ice axe: hot forged, one-piece head that provides maximum strength and minimal weight. A specially designed pick makes the axes more comfortable to carry and causes less wear on your gloves.

Our Verdict
Grivel's G1 Plus Axe is a classic winter walking axe. The hot forged one piece head will survive years of abuse in the mountains. The ergonomic head is comfortable to hold and will cause less wear on your gloves as there are no aggressive teeth on the pick near the shaft.
The straight shaft is ideal for winter walking and is makes it easier to perform an ice axe arrest than axes with more aggressive pick angles. The bottom of the shaft has a comfy rubber grip making it easier and warmer to hold.
The G1 Plus axe comes with a springer leash meaning you can attach the axe to your yourself or more preferably your ruck sack so a moment of clumsiness won't see you axe sliding down the mountain. Unlike a wrist leash there is nothing stopping you swapping hands all day long.
