Rab's Ascent Pro range uses 650 Fill Power down contained in technical baffles to create sleeping bags with very respectable warmth to weight ratios despite them being a more comfortable shape than the more performance orientated bags.

Rab says:

Warm and spacious, the Ascent Pro has much of the same construction as our most technical bags but with a wider, comfier fit. Perfect for those investing in their first down bag for cold conditions, it’s built with water resistant Pertex® Quantum Pro and filled with 650FP duck down.

Warm and protective, the Ascent Pro 600 is ideal for cold conditions in the UK and Scandinavia. It has a generous wide fit, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep for the weary mountain explorer. Filled with 600g of 650FP duck down, it is a warm sleeping bag, with space to wear extra, bulkier layers inside if the temperature suddenly drops.

With Pertex® Quantum Pro wind and water resistant outer and hydrophobic duck down, it copes well with wind, condensation, and damp conditions, ideal for an exposed bivi ledge. Warm enough to deal with plummeting temperatures it’s a great all-round adventure, three season sleeping bag. Built with trapezoid shaped, boxwall baffles that stack neatly together, the down inside is encouraged to fully loft, maximising insulation and reducing the appearance of cold spots. Hand-filled in the UK, all our down bags benefit from never having had their down compressed before use, maintaining the down’s loft and warmth.

The Ascent Pro has a ¾ length main zip with a down filled internal baffle and 3D shaped neck baffle, both designed to limit any heat escaping. There’s a zipped pocket inside, ideal for stashing your headlamp within easy reach, and with its angled foot box you can be sure of comfy position to sleep. Exploring with a partner or want extra space? Pick up a left and a right zipped bag and you can zip them together.

Our Verdict

Rab's Ascent Pro 600 Down Sleeping Bag fits in the Ascent Pro series which are filled with 650 Fill Power down contained in a trapezoidal boxwall baffle construction with a differential cut to eliminate cold spots. The slightly lower down quality compared to their premium bags makes these bags more affordable but they are still a technical bag.

Built with a more comfortable and spacious shape these are ideal for those people who like a bit more room in their bags. The weights are still suitable for backpacking and trekking and many will be happy to carry the extra weight for a slightly bigger bag.

The shell fabric is highly water resistant Pertex Quantum Pro, this equips the sleeping bag for use where moisture may be present such as tarp camping, bivying or when using single skin tents. Of course it is perfectly suitable for two skin tents and any other places you might want to sleep.

The rest of the bag is up to Rab's high standard with features and construction to a very high standard.
