Our Verdict
Built primarily with runners in mind, this is a very versatile pack, that has managed to cram a lot into the pack’s 28l capacity. It’s been designed, with the intention of never having to take the bag off, until you either finish your trail, stop for lunch or camp. Multiple storage pockets and user-friendly features mean everything not stored in the main body of the bag, is accessible to you at all times without the need to stop.
If you drink from a water bottle, 2 large mesh side pockets are provided, both of which are easily accessible while the bag is on. If you’re a bladder user, a cavity capable of housing a 3l bladder is located next to your back, or if you prefer soft water bottles, 2 pockets have been provided on the shoulder straps. This is what I mean when I say the bag is very versatile, it suits a lot of running and hiking styles.
Fully tape seams and a roll-top closure, ensure the Aeon Ultra seals out the weather, protecting your gear inside the 28l space. A large rear mesh pocket swallows wet weather gear/things you want close at hand. The large, highly breathable shoulder straps have pockets on each strap for mobile phone, water bottles, GPS devices, keys, etc. 2 hip belt pockets provide additional storage, perfect for energy bars. 2 walking poles can also be stored, again without having to take the bag off. All poles will fit, but z-poles fit the snuggest, keeping the pack streamlined.
This makes a really excellent day pack, however, embracing the ultra-light way, I think this would make a good multi-day bag if you are minimalistic with your gear, this could be a really good pack to attempt a national trail, in fact, I plan to do so.
